About RTC

Founded in 2019, Richard Tomaino Ceramics (RTC) was born from a passion for sculpture, design, and the timeless art of ceramics. Nestled in the heart of Ashburton, Melbourne, RTC is more than just a studio—it’s a place where creativity flourishes, skills are nurtured, and a love for pottery is shared.

At RTC, we believe that ceramics is a journey, not just a craft. Our studio fosters an open and welcoming environment where students, artists, and makers of all levels can explore clay in their own unique way. Whether you’re here to take your first spin on the wheel, refine your technique, or dive deep into sculpture, we’re here to support your creative path.

Meet the Team

RTC wouldn’t be what it is without the people who bring it to life. From guiding students at the wheel to keeping the studio running smoothly, our team is at the heart of everything we do.
Each instructor and studio technician plays a vital role in making RTC a welcoming, inspiring space where creativity can thrive.

  • Richard Tomaino, founder of RTC, focused while shaping clay on a pottery wheel, demonstrating ceramic techniques.

    Richard Tomaino

    FOUNDER, INSTRUCTOR

Richard’s background in industrial design and automotive sculpture gives him a unique perspective on ceramics—blending form, function, and technique in a way that feels both intuitive and artistic. Driven by a desire to share his love for sculpture and pottery with others, he created RTC as a space where ceramics could be accessible, engaging, and endlessly rewarding.

Richard seeks to align his professional practice with dedicated tuition, helping to guide and grow creatives from the ground up.

  • Cass Lee, RTC studio technician and instructor, carefully shaping a ceramic piece in the studio, surrounded by shelves with pottery tools and materials.

    Cass Lee

    INSTRUCTOR, STUDIO TECHNICIAN

Cass discovered their passion for ceramics through an introductory workshop in 2022, quickly becoming immersed in the craft. With a background in architectural design and a career in residential landscape design, their work thoughtfully integrates principles of line, balance, and silhouette. Cass creates high-quality, functional ceramics designed for everyday life and hospitality settings.

Teaching is central to Cass’s practice—they love sharing their skills, experience, and design knowledge, helping students build strong foundations and confidence at the wheel.
